Hosting (recommendations)
We used to offer hosting, but frankly, everyone’s better off having the hosting professionals do it. So here are our recommendations.
Budget hosting:
HostRefugee is affordable and user-friendly. They have a great feature set, excellent reliability, and are better than most hosts at customer service. Their “Lite” plan will be enough to get most people started.
Sign up using one of these codes to get a discount:
AMSAVE15 gets you 15% off for life
AMSAVE30 gets you 30% off your 1st payment
Bells-and-whistles hosting:
If you’re planning on eventually having more than one blog, or want more features than HostRefugee offers in their package, take a look at HostICan. They offer 24/7 phone and chat support, and a great set of features for the price.
Domain names:
Their ads are lame, yes, but they offer good prices and a useful service, so we use and recommend GoDaddy.com. Tip: check for a coupon before you buy. You can often get a better price.
Newsletter:
If you are thinking of starting a newsletter (and you really should), far and away our favorite newsletter service is iContact. They have a great selection of newsletter designs for you to use, intuitive features, and provide really useful information about what happened with any given issue (who clicked on links, who opened it, that kind of thing). Their reasonable pricing is based on the number of subscribers you have, not how many emails you send, so it’s a great way to avoid the nickel-and-dime approach of many other providers.
(In the interest of full-disclosure, we receive a commission if you use the discount codes and links above, but we wholeheartedly recommend these hosts either way. If you aren’t comfortable with the commission thing, you can just do a Google search on the given host and go there directly.)
Need something different? We know lots of hosts and can recommend one that does just what you need. Just ask us!
