The Custom Start blog package

If you know you want a custom design, we highly recommend the Custom Start package. When you sign up for the Custom Start, we’ll have you fill out a questionnaire to help us understand your specific needs. Then we’ll lock one or two of our fabulous designers into a room until they gives us something we like (just kidding; our designers are so awesome we treat them like rock stars!).

We’ll show you three potential blog designs, and you can pick one to refine. You’ll tell us if you want changes; we’ll make them. Once you’re happy with the design, we’ll turn it into your own custom WordPress theme and set you loose on your new WordPress blog.

The Custom Start blog package includes…

  • An initial consultation by phone or chat (your choice) to help identify your blogging goals
  • WordPress setup and configuration (or upgrade, if you already have it installed)
  • Three custom designs to choose from
  • A custom, search-engine-optimized WordPress theme (with standard front and interior pages) created from your selected design
  • A collection of essential WordPress plugins, installed and configured
  • Hosting and domain name for the first year (if you need them; we’re also happy to work with what you have)

The process

While every custom blog design is different, the process usually follows a standard pattern.

  1. When you contact us and say you’re thinking about working with us, we’ll start by talking with you about your needs. When we’re confident that we are the right firm for you, and you’ve decided to move forward, the project begins. We’ll schedule the project start based on our availability and your needs.
  2. You’ll fill out our questionnaire and send a deposit for 50% of the cost.
  3. On the project start date, assuming we’ve received both the questionnaire and the deposit, we’ll get our designers to work. After about seven business days, we’ll show you the three potential designs.
  4. You’ll pick the design you like best, and let us know what you’d like changed. This is a flexible process, and we can combine aspects of one design with another. When you know what changes you want, you’ll send us a list via email or give us a call.
  5. We’ll work with the designer to make your requested changes. You can expect to see the revised design in about four business days.
  6. After seeing the revised version, you can request further changes or give us the go-ahead to start coding. The package includes up to three “rounds” of changes, so the timing will depend on how many rounds of changes you need (each round takes about four business days from the time we receive your requests).
  7. When you’re happy with the proposed design, we’ll start turning it into a working WordPress theme. This process takes about seven business days, and the end result is a polished, search-engine-friendly theme on a live WordPress blog. At this point, we’ll provide login information and walk you through the basics of using your blog.
  8. That’s it! Just like that, you can be up and running with an attractive and distinctive blog.
